Third, liquid conductivity:

The fluid being measured must be conductive, and its conductivity should be above a certain threshold. If the conductivity is too low, the meter may not function properly or give inaccurate readings. The general threshold for common models is between 10⁻⁴ and 5×10⁻⁶ S/cm. However, this can vary depending on the model and manufacturer. Additionally, the length of the signal cable between the sensor and converter can affect measurement accuracy, so it’s important to follow the guidelines provided in the product manual.

The diameter of the flowmeter doesn’t always need to match the pipeline exactly. It’s important to ensure that the flow conditions are optimal for accurate measurements. In general, the recommended flow velocity in pipelines is between 1.5 and 3 m/s. For fluids that are prone to deposition or scaling, a higher flow rate (at least 2 m/s, ideally 3–4 m/s) helps prevent buildup. On the other hand, for abrasive fluids like pulp, a lower flow rate (under 2–3 m/s) is advised to reduce wear on the lining and electrodes. For low-conductivity liquids near the threshold, a slower flow rate (below 0.5–1 m/s) is preferred to minimize noise and instability in the readings.

Choosing the right electromagnetic flowmeter is crucial for smooth operations. A poor choice can lead to frequent failures, downtime, and costly repairs.
