Samsung to invest 7 billion US dollars to expand Xi'an NAND flash memory chip production capacity
[Global Science Correspondent Li Xiaofei] According to Yonhap News on August 28, Samsung Electronics announced on the same day that it plans to invest $7 billion over the next three years in Xi’an, China. This investment aims to significantly expand the production capacity of Samsung’s (China) Semiconductor’s NAND flash memory manufacturing line.
Attached is an image of the Xi’an Samsung Semiconductor plant, which began operations on May 9, 2014. The facility, designed and built by Samsung Electronics, has been running at full capacity since its inception. With this expansion, Samsung hopes to meet the rising global demand for NAND flash memory, particularly in China, which represents one of the largest markets for such products.
The report highlighted that the existing semiconductor production line in Xi’an has been operational since 2014 and currently operates at maximum efficiency. By boosting production capacity in China, Samsung aims to address the increasing demand for advanced memory solutions over the medium and long term.
It’s worth noting that the newly established production line will focus exclusively on manufacturing vertical flash memory, commonly referred to as V-NAND. This technology is renowned for its superior performance and storage density compared to traditional NAND flash memory.
