Exploring the boundaries of art displays and entities, the Nanjing Museum of Art debuts VR
Yesterday, Nanjing Wenlian hosted a digital media conference where the Nanjing Art Museum officially unveiled its "VR Virtual Technology Exhibition." This innovative approach integrates technologies like virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and others to offer a 360-degree, three-dimensional, immersive experience without any blind spots. Visitors are fully immersed in the exhibits, engaging their senses and enhancing their understanding of the art on display. Additionally, Nanjing Wenlian has embraced VR technology in the realm of drama, creating a digital theater experimental play titled "Keeping the Dream Alive." This groundbreaking project allows dramatic performances to transcend time and space, making them accessible anytime, anywhere.
During the event, several prominent figures were present, including Vice Minister of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Secretary of the Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Executive Vice Chairman Chen Wei, Vice Chairman Zhang Jun, Zang Cunzhou from the Nanjing University of Arts' School of Film and Television, National First-Class Actor Cai Wei, Wang Fang, Dean of the School of Communication at Nanjing Arts University, and Li Wei, Director of the Zijin News Channel. Yang Kunle, Deputy Inspector and General Secretary of Nanjing Wenlian, chaired the conference.
The guests had the opportunity to visit the digital exhibition at the Nanjing Art Museum and experience how VR virtual technology enhances both the Art Exhibition and the digital theater experimental play "Keeping the Dream Alive."
**VR Virtual Technology Brings New Dimensions to Artistic Creation**
It’s worth noting that VR (Virtual Reality) technology is a computer-generated simulation system that creates and immerses users in a virtual world. By leveraging a computer to simulate environments, VR offers a multi-sensory, interactive, and dynamic visual experience. This technology allows users to feel as though they are part of the environment, thus deepening their connection with the artwork.
The advancement of VR technology has opened up new avenues for artistic expression and creativity. As modern life becomes increasingly fast-paced, people are more inclined to engage with art through interactive experiences. This trend encourages avant-garde approaches to art, inspires innovation, and broadens the scope of artistic creation.
To capitalize on these opportunities, the Nanjing Art Museum, following extensive preparation and technological development, officially launched its "VR Virtual Technology Exhibition" on August 31st. This marks the first instance of a major art museum in Nanjing utilizing cutting-edge VR technology to showcase significant exhibitions. The goal is to push the boundaries of traditional art museum displays by integrating virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and other interactive forms.
At the Nanjing Art Museum, visitors can not only zoom in to examine works of art in detail but also get a comprehensive view of the entire gallery space, creating a 360-degree立体 and spatially immersive experience.
Through this immersive atmosphere, viewers are encouraged to engage all their senses, leading to a deeper understanding of the art. Cross-media interactions, human-machine collaboration, and the blending of virtual and real elements provide novel perspectives and interpretations for audiences. These interactions challenge conventional notions of time and space, prompting reflection on contemporary society and future visions.
**VR + Drama: Nanjing Wenlian’s Digital Theater Experiment**
Moreover, Nanjing Wenlian has integrated VR technology into the world of drama, producing a digital theater experimental play called "Keeping the Dream Alive." This innovation breaks down the barriers of time and space, allowing dramatic performances to be enjoyed globally, anytime, anywhere. By reducing the costs associated with traditional theater productions, this approach also increases potential revenue streams. It expands the reach of dramatic arts beyond the limited confines of physical theaters, achieving global accessibility and uniform distribution.
In collaboration with the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Nanjing Art Institute, and the Zijin News client, Nanjing Wenlian embarked on the "Three Museums, One Theater" initiative. This project includes the construction of a Digital Art Museum, Digital Folklore Museum, Digital Theater, and the exploration of VR virtual technology within the context of digital art exhibitions.
This initiative not only showcases the potential of VR in transforming traditional art forms but also highlights Nanjing's commitment to embracing digital innovation in cultural and artistic endeavors.
