Apple supplier Wistron says it is ready for next-generation iPhone SE production
On August 5, reports from Focus Taiwan’s supply chain indicated that Apple's supplier, Wistron, is gearing up to expand its iPhone production capabilities in India. This move is part of Apple's strategy to boost its presence in the Indian smartphone market. It's rumored that Wistron will handle the majority of the orders for the upcoming second-generation iPhone SE, which is expected to hit the market in the first quarter of 2018.
The decision to entrust Wistron with this task comes as no surprise, given the company's existing role in producing the current iPhone SE. Wistron has already established a manufacturing facility in Bangalore, India, where they are currently handling the production of the iPhone SE.
In related news, the Indian tech website Tekz24 recently shared details about the next-generation iPhone SE. According to their report, the device is expected to feature an upgraded configuration that mirrors the iPhone 7. This includes an A10 processor, 2GB of RAM, and storage options of 32GB and 128GB, similar to the current iPhone SE. Additionally, the new model will boast a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera, along with a slightly larger battery capacity of 1700mAh compared to the present model's 1640mAh.
Apple's push into India is part of a broader effort to tap into one of the world's fastest-growing smartphone markets. By leveraging local production through suppliers like Wistron, Apple aims to not only reduce costs but also cater more effectively to consumer preferences in the region. This expansion could mark a significant milestone in Apple's global strategy, potentially paving the way for further product launches in emerging markets.
As we await official announcements from Apple, these developments highlight the growing importance of India in the tech giant's future plans. With increasing competition from local brands and other international players, Apple's focus on India reflects its determination to maintain its position as a leader in the global smartphone industry.
