Samsung LG regrets the US heavy-duty Korean washing machine tariff table
The Yonhap News Agency reported that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has recommended a 50% tariff on over 1.2 million South Korean-made washing machines. In response, both Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have expressed their disappointment with the decision.

On the 21st local time, Samsung Electronics released a statement on its U.S. legal website, warning that the proposed tariff would severely impact American consumers, retailers, and employment. The company argued that regardless of the final tariff rate, product prices would increase, limiting consumer choice and threatening jobs tied to the planned home appliance factory in South Carolina.
Samsung strongly urged the U.S. government to avoid any trade measures that could harm workers at the South Carolina facility or restrict the availability of innovative washing machines produced in the U.S. by American companies.
LG Electronics also responded to the ITC’s recommendation, stating that such protectionist measures would negatively affect the U.S. retail sector and consumers. The company expressed deep regret over the situation and called on the U.S. government to make decisions that prioritize the interests of consumers, retailers, and the broader home appliance industry.
In addition, LG pointed out that the ITC’s proposal could limit consumer choice, hinder the growth of Korean companies in the U.S., and disrupt ongoing operations at local factories, which are critical for job creation.
