On the 13th, a reporter learned from local authorities in Ningde City that after nearly a decade of development, the city has become the world's largest production base for polymer lithium-ion batteries. Additionally, Ningde is the only region in China that mass-produces battery power units for global car manufacturers like BMW and Volkswagen. By the end of the "13th Five-Year Plan," the total scale of Ningde’s lithium-ion new energy industry is expected to surpass 100 billion yuan, with the battery manufacturing sector reaching 70 billion yuan and the supporting materials and equipment industry exceeding 30 billion yuan. More and more smartphones today feature fast charging capabilities, thanks to the high-performance lithium-ion batteries developed by ATL, part of Ningde’s new energy industry. These batteries offer advantages such as high energy density, high power output, fast charging, customizable shapes, and enhanced safety. Their quality is among the best in the world, setting trends in the market. The company also provides full-service solutions, including custom design, prototyping, system integration, safety certification, and mass production, serving major brands like Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Meizu, and Xinjiang. Another key product is CATL’s power battery, which incorporates core technologies in materials, battery cells, battery systems, and recycling. The energy density of its battery cells can reach up to 250Wh/kg, suitable for electric passenger vehicles. The system comes with a warranty of at least 8 years or 120,000 kilometers. Domestically, CATL partners with major automakers like Yutong, Jinlong, Beiqi, SAIC, GAC, and Geely. It is the only domestic supplier producing power batteries for BMW and Volkswagen, and it will also supply batteries to Peugeot, Citroen, Nissan, Renault, Mercedes-Benz, and General Motors between 2018 and 2019. As of November, 36 projects have been connected to the industry chain, with a total investment of 24.742 billion yuan. These projects cover various segments, including lithium-ion battery separator coating materials, aluminum-plastic films, anode and cathode materials, separators, aluminum foil, copper foil, electrolytes, battery components, cell shells, and molds. This demonstrates the growing influence and appeal of Ningde’s lithium new energy industry. Led by companies like ATL and CATL, the Ningde lithium new energy industry focuses on lithium battery and PACK manufacturing. Through a strong industrial chain, it has driven the development of the new energy vehicle industry and spurred growth in related sectors such as high-end equipment, motor power systems, control management, and testing and certification. Currently, the industry shows clear leadership, with coordinated development across the supply chain. With East China and Jiaocheng as the core, it is expanding to surrounding counties such as Fu’an, Fuding, Gutian, and Pingnan.
