ON Semiconductor Introduces First High Resolution Image Sensors with Near Infrared + (NIR+)

On April 10, 2018, ON Semiconductor, which promotes energy-efficient innovation, introduced the first CMOS image sensors using near-infrared + (NIR+) technology, which effectively combines high dynamic range (HDR) with enhanced micro Light performance is combined to enable high-end security and surveillance cameras.

The AR0522 is a 1/2.5-inch 5.1 megapixel (MP) image sensor based on a 2.2 micron (μm) back-illuminated (BSI) pixel technology platform designed for high-resolution, high-quality video capture in low-light conditions Developed for industrial applications. The sensitivity of the near-infrared wavelength provided by the AR0522 image sensor is about twice that of the existing AR0521 image sensor.

The AR0431 is a 1/3.2-inch 4 megapixel sensor based on a 2.0μm back-illuminated pixel technology platform. It offers a universal low-power mode and a frame rate of up to 120fps, making it ideal for applications that require slow motion video capture. Its low operating energy makes it ideal for battery-powered security cameras, motion/motion cameras, car DVRs and general surveillance cameras.

ON Semiconductor develops NIR+ technology to increase the quantum efficiency (QE) of sensors in the near-infrared region without sacrificing color fidelity in the visible spectrum. With this technology, security cameras can use fewer infrared (IR) LEDs on bill of materials (BOM) at lower voltages and still achieve high quality images in low-light and near-infrared conditions.

Gianluca Colli, vice president and general manager of ON Semiconductor's image sensor consumer solutions division, said: "The NIR+ technology and back-illuminated pixel platform used in the AR0522 and AR0431 truly achieve superior image quality and low-light performance, even at great challenges. Brighter, sharper images are also available under light conditions."

Supply:
ON Semiconductor now offers AR0522 engineering samples in a 12mm x 12mm mPLCC package and is scheduled for volume production in May 2018.
Engineering samples for the AR0431 will be available in April 2018 in a 10mm x 10mm mPLCC package and are scheduled for volume production in July 2018.
