Cree Introduces XLamp® XQ LEDs for Breakthrough Package Size and Optical Distribution

On March 29th, Cree, the market leader in LED lighting, announced the launch of its new product line, XLamp® XQ LEDs, which combines small package, innovative light distribution and high reliability design. The effective integration of these features will enable a new generation of application designs for lighting applications requiring a wider light distribution such as full-angle bulbs and luminaires.

The XLamp ® XQ LED is Cree's smallest illumination-grade LED in a package size of only 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm, which is 57% smaller than the XLamp® XB LED package. Based on Cree's innovative SC3 technology platform, ceramic-based XLamp® XQ LEDs are optimized to deliver the same long-term life as Cree's other high-power LED products such as high-performance XLamp® XP or XT LEDs. At the same time, the new illuminating mechanism of XLamp® XQ LEDs allows light to diverge more toward the edge of the package than the center of the package. Compared to existing LED products, XLamp® XQ LEDs enable a wider optical distribution with fewer packaged devices. Together, these innovations enable luminaire manufacturers to increase the light output, life expectancy, and full-angle lighting design of their products.

The XLamp ® XQ LED range includes two new products, the XLamp® XQ-B LED and the XLamp® XQ-D LED. XLamp® XQ-B LEDs achieve up to 160 lm/W efficacy in cool white (5,000 K), 0.18W. XLamp® XQ-D LEDs achieve up to 130 lm/W efficacy in cool white (5,000 K), 1W conditions. Both products offer a color temperature selection of 2,700 K - 6,500 K and a minimum color rendering index of 80.
