A new generation of couriers is born, GPS + automatic driving
What does a smart delivery robot look like, and how does it work? The user simply needs to download an app, and once the order is initiated from their phone, the robot automatically matches with the user’s mobile number. With just one tap on the app, the robot’s storage compartment opens, allowing the user to retrieve their package. Additionally, administrators can monitor and control the robot through a centralized system, tracking its real-time location, usage data, service status, and even user feedback—all in one place.
The first provincial science and technology achievement exhibition in Shaanxi Province, along with the third graduate innovation achievement exhibition and the school-enterprise docking conference, recently took place in Xi’an. Over 2,200 technological innovations from universities across China were showcased, including robotic couriers, 3D-printed art, and other advanced technologies spanning energy and chemical industries, non-ferrous metallurgy, equipment manufacturing, next-generation information technology, and new materials.

At the Changan University booth, the unmanned delivery robot demonstrated its capabilities to the audience. This "robot courier" was independently developed by Associate Professor Han Yi’s team. It can automatically collect route points based on a pre-set path. Using GPS-based self-navigation, the robot drives according to these coordinates and delivers packages directly to the recipient. According to team member Fan, this logistics vehicle weighs 50 kilograms, has a range of up to 60 kilometers, and can reach a top speed of 15 meters per second. The robot is equipped with a front-facing camera, GPS positioning, and a laser radar—tools that help it detect road conditions and avoid obstacles. However, due to complex traffic environments and legal restrictions, it currently cannot operate on public roads. Instead, it is designed for use in more controlled areas such as university campuses or residential communities.
