Jingdong will be involved in vegetable production and Mitsubishi Chemical will provide it with plant factories and cultivation techniques. Jingdong had previously sold vegetables on the Internet. With the increasing number of consumers seeking freshness, safety, and peace of mind, Jingdong will build self-operated plant factories in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to expand its fresh food business.

Jingdong will build a plant plant of approximately 10,000 square meters in Tongzhou, Beijing, and put it into operation before the spring of 2018. The investment amounted to approximately 800 million yen. Mitsubishi Chemical will provide hydroponic cultivation systems, and provide technical guidance in seed selection, seeding, harvesting, and packaging, as well as health management and record management of vegetable production.

The plant will produce 300 tons of vegetables and vegetables each year. Jingdong will use its own logistics network to cultivate and use its own products to emphasize the freshness, safety and security of the products. The vegetables produced at Mitsubishi Chemical's plant factory were sold in Shanghai and received good reviews. Therefore, JD.com decided to start cultivation.

Mitsubishi Chemical's plant plant business has annual sales of 1.5 billion yen. In 2014, a joint venture company was established in China and entered the Chinese market. Mitsubishi Chemical has cooperated with Jingdong, which plans to operate plant factories throughout China, and strives to achieve sales of this business to 5 billion yen by 2020.
