Intel launches paid Internet video services and supporting set-top boxes

Intel confirmed this week that it will launch paid Internet video services and supporting set-top boxes later this year. Intel used to rarely provide products and services directly to end consumers, so this is an unusual move.

Intel did not disclose the name and price of this video service. This video service will use a brand different from Intel. Intel Media Group Director Erik Huggers said that Intel plans to provide a series of live and on-demand TV shows, TV tracking function, and a customized program interface, compared to cable TV and satellite TV company set-top boxes to help users find TV more easily program.

Intel ’s services will also have some unique features. Its set-top boxes will use Intel processors and will integrate high-definition cameras and microphones to provide innovative applications.
